Foundation for Indigenous Sustainable Health
NEO Concrete Group is proud to partner with KARDAN Construction and BGC Housing to support the Foundation for Indigenous Sustainable Health (FISH).
FISH was originally established to address the severe housing crisis in Indigenous communities throughout Australia. Their work has since expanded to include education, health, justice and cultural initiatives. Acknowledging that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have a living spiritual, cultural, familial and social connection with country, FISH seeks to bring healing to the spirit, heart, mind, body and land to help create healthy people and communities.
NEO Concrete Group is part of the effort to secure housing for Aboriginal people. This is a fundamental part of securing positive futures for Aboriginal people to ensure people in the community can move out of poverty. We have a role to play in creating secure housing opportunities to break intergenerational cycles of poverty.
According to FISH, the rate of Aboriginal home ownership is half that of non-Aboriginal home ownership. As such, they have developed a model called the Home Ownership Model to assist Aboriginal people to secure a home of their own.
The program has several significant benefits including:
- Engagement with Aboriginal communities
- Design and construction of home in collaboration with Aboriginal families
- Strengthening local networks
- Remove barriers for Aboriginal people to access finance
- Incorporate sustainable and renewable processes
By extension, the project provides opportunities for training and employment for Aboriginal communities. NEO Concrete is proud to be a part of this revolutionary project.
